Entre el fetiche y el cuerpo “propio”: Las niñas en las escritoras del Caribe hispano

Abstract: this article analyzes the statements from and about the body that Hispanic Caribbean women writers place against dominant myths about girls’ sexuality. Exploring the portraits of young girls and adolescents in works by several hispanic writers, I illustrate recurring motifs in half a century of representation of becoming women in the Caribbean. By laughing, screaming, crying or even committing suicide, the protagonists reveal the violence behind patriarcal fetishism, and the girls’ desire to live a body “of one’s own”. Girls’ stories both convey and challenge the discourses and practices that assign value to women’s bodies in the Caribbean, highlighting the potential contributions of literary girls to the understanding of the “corporeal consciousness” that this investigation posits as a distinctive feature of Caribbean culture, and as a means to the formation of more autonomous subjectivities.Este artículo analiza los enunciados del cuerpo y sobre el cuerpo con los que las escritoras del Caribe hispano disputan los mitos dominantes en torno a la sexualidad infantil. Explorando retratosde niñas y adolescentes en obras de varias autoras hispanas, ilustro motivos recurrentes en medio siglo de representación del proceso de hacerse mujeres en el Caribe. Por medio de la risa, losgritos, el llanto y hasta el suicidio, las protagonistas revelan tanto la violencia agazapada tras el fetichismo patriarcal como su deseo de vivir un cuerpo “propio”. Sus historias recrean y desafían los discursos y prácticas que asignan valor a los cuerpos femeninos en el Caribe, subrayando los aportes posibles de las niñas literarias a la comprensión de la “conciencia corporal” que mi investigación postula como rasgo distintivo de las culturas caribeñas y como medio para la formación de subjetividades más autónomas
